Poll results

Updated On: Jul 18, 2008 (11:57:00)

In May, AFT-Wisconsin commissioned a poll of our membership to gauge their feelings about the upcoming elections, opinions about our union's political program and our members feelings on key legislative issues.  The results provide an insight into our members' sentiments as we approach the fall elections.

To view a presentation of the polling results, visit the "Political Action Center" of the website.  If you are a member of AFT-W but have not created a login, please click here to create an account.

Talking About Government

Updated On: Jun 21, 2008 (11:25:00)

The public's perception of government has grown increasingly cynical throughout the years. As a union of professional public employees, AFT-Wisconsin should help lead the way in  communicating effectively about government and its role in society.

On June 17, over thirty AFT-Wisconsin activists from around the state attended a training titled "Talking About Government," which was led by the Demos Center for the Public Sector. Materials and resources from the training are available to AFT-Wisconsin members in the "Professional Development" section of the website.  For further information, please contact AFT-Wisconsin Communications Director Jill Malak at malak@aft-wisconsin.org.

UW faculty salaries far behind the curve

Madison, Wis – University faculty tend to experience a high level of stress at this point in the semester – with the culmination of classes, there are many deadlines to be met, exams to be written and final grades to be calculated. Now UW faculty have an additional reason to be stressed out: a recent report by the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) found that salaries for UW faculty lag far behind those of their peer institutions.
