AFT-Wisconsin Response to Governor Evers Emergency Order #3

For Immediate Release:
Tuesday, October 6, 2020

Madison, WI – AFT-Wisconsin President Kim Kohlhaas has responded to Governor Evers’ Emergency Order #3 as follows:

“In the midst of this pandemic, Republicans in our federal government have offered no relief to public schools. With Wisconsin leading the nation in new cases, our Republican state legislature has not considered a single bill to protect our state from the virus or its economic effects. Governor Evers' new Executive Order at least follows the science, but it does not go far enough.

Viral spread does not stop at our public schools' doors. We call upon Wisconsin public school boards and administrators to protect the health of students and staff and their loved ones. Prevention measures must be strengthened, and fully virtual learning must be a viable option in response to surging cases. It should not take the death of any educator, staff, or student to protect the public health. The time is now, and AFT-Wisconsin members will continue to fight for safer schools.”
